Alerion 41 gets new PowerFurl Boom

Launched in fall 2013, this Alerion 41 is rigged with a carbon PowerFurl boom from GMT Composites. This new series in the Alerion line-up, first launched in Spring of 2013, is their largest to date. Alerion is a U.S. Watercraft brand and built in Rhode Island, right around the corner from GMT Composites.

The Alerion 41 follows the same design ethos as the complete range of six Alerion models from 20’ to 41’. They have classic lines above the water line coupled with modern underbellies, hi-tech impeccable construction, and set-up for easy short-handed sailing.

SeaStairs for Hunt 74 M/V SURF

GMT Composites delivered a new set of their carbon fiber SeaStairs boarding system for a 74’ Hunt designed motor vessel named Surf. The boat under-went a major re-fit at New England Boatworks in Portsmouth RI. The owner had Surf custom built about 15 years ago with an innovative design parameter to include full wheel chair access. She was originally 68’, but she is being extended to 74’ as part of the refit. The owner wanted to include a “Z-Lift” into the newly extended swim platform in the transom that will be capable of raising the platform up to eight feet.

Delta Marine of Seattle WA recently celebrated their most recent launch of the 217’ private motor vessel named Invictus. GMT Composites was selected to design and supply the carbon fiber boarding systems including the primary boarding stair system, a swim ladder, and a vertical boarding ladder.

Newest Leopard 58 goes PowerFurl

GMT Composites is pleased to announce their involvement with the next Leopard 58 catamaran coming to the US in the Spring of 2014. The new Cat will be outfitted with a carbon fiber GMT PowerFurl boom when she arrives in Florida following her commissioning and voyage under sail from Leopard’s factory in South Africa.

Hanse 575 gets new GMT carbon rig with Pocket Boom

GMT Composites has delivered a full carbon rig for a new Hanse 575 based in Vancouver, Canada in December. The rig includes a GMT Composites spar and Pocket boom, along with Navtec rod rigging. Working directly with the new owner, with technical support from the Hanse factory in Germany, GMT designed the rig to incorporate their carbon Pocket Boom at the owner’s request. It is an open faced boom with enough interior volume to hold a flaked sail in storage – large enough to walk down, thus the naming this style is often referred to as a "Park Ave" boom.

GMT Professional Boatbuilder Magazine - Carbon Masts Faux bois

Professional Boatbuilder's own Dan Spurr takes an in-depth look at what it takes to refit the eighty-five year old 100' schooner, Summerwind, from wooden masts to carbon masts. GMT's proprietary faux bois finish even made the cover of the magazine. The Alden designed schooner's rig weight was reduced by over 3,000 lbs, yet looks as classic as ever.
